@everyone
October is just around the corner, which means it’s time to prepare for Roctoberfest :tada:
Registration for https://hacktoberfest.com/ open in a couple of days. I’ve added the “hacktoberfest” label to roc-lang/roc
to let others know roc is open to contributions from the open-source community.
If anyone is not sure where to start, we have our Good First Issues.
Remember to submit four PR’s during October to qualify for the digital badge.
If you are interested in mentoring, please add your availability to this Mentors When2Meet.
Contributors (both new and existing) can use this to find a good time with you and arrange to pair on an issue or ask for help.
Also, please add “Roctoberfest Mentor” in your zulip status, so people know you are open to help others.
I’d like to arrange a number of fireside chats during Roctoberfest – just some informal meetings (not recorded or anything) between contributors to talk about anything related to Roc.
If you are available for a fireside chat, please fill out your availability in this Fireside When2Meet. I’ll look for good times where people are available to chat across various time zones, and make a follow up post with the dates.
A few people have expressed interest in streaming again for Roctoberfest this year. Can you please let me know what you’re planning?
I would love to share your stream so we don’t miss it.
Looking forward to hacking with you all for another Roctoberfest :rock_on:
I think my goal for Roctoberfest is to try and upgrade basic-cli and basic-webserver to use the new roc-lang/path package Richard talked about in the online meetup.
I think that will be a nice example we can point to for how cross-platform packages will look in future (and iron out any issues we find along the way).
that package isn't done, so will require some filling in gaps too
Anton and I are the only ones who have added our availability to the above When2Meets. Maybe this thread was missed by most, or the timing wasn't great when I posted it.
If you're interested in participating could you please add you're availability.
I joined the discord server and made a post about Roc in the project sharing channel. I think it got filtered as I immediately got a message from a bot saying,
Please don't post in the project sharing channel if you aren't sharing a project. Make sure you're sharing a GitHub/GitLab repository link, or a specific issue link.
I'm not a big Discord user, so I'll wait the 6hrs and then try again with a direct link to the GH repo instead.
I'm interested. Just travelling and such. Will take a look and plan more next week.
Ok, I've made a post for Roc in the discord in case anyone here wanted to see it. :rock_on:
I just joined the zulip from the discord post. Definitely interested in trying to submit a pull request for Hacktoberfest <3
Welcome @Jules
I can see if I can fix those issues I have with my PR to test multiple files at once if that counts.
@John Konecny if your wanting the PRs to count for the official Hacktoberfest event the PR has to be created in October. As in to get the 4x PRs to recieve the badge.
I see. Well I still need to finish that PR.
I may have rambled for a bit too long, but here is a video on contributing to roc for hacktoberfest: https://youtu.be/a3Zl9djW2Zo
Will definitely be following up with streams at some point. Please comment on the video what you would like to see in a roctoberfest stream.
Just saw this video, I'm excited to contribute to Roc.
