It's a bit rough and I've been sitting on this for a while poking at bugs elsewhere -- but with all the fixes that landed recently I've managed to get a release out for testing roc-gui.

https://github.com/lukewilliamboswell/roc-gui/releases/tag/0.1.0-rc1

Check it out and let me know if you have any issues running on your system. The vast majority of my time has been setting up infrastructure and packaging gpui so it should just work out of the box on everyone's system -- the flip side is the API is probably less than ideal. I've had quite a few attempts at Richard's Action-State design over the years, and this is by far the nicest and the performance seems great too.

I haven't updated the gpui pin into the zed repo for a little while so it's a bit behind, and there's quite a few bugs to fix. Updating that is non-trivial when it comes to getting it working across all the different targets, and providing all the linker inputs like macOS and Windows stubs etc.

GUI platform's are enormous and very complex, and I have a lot of respect for those giants who have made gpui so nice that we can build on top of it.

Looking forward to see what people build with this :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

@Luke Boswell, does it support musl systems? When I build it, the result is dependent on glibc.

No support for musl yet. We will need to look into that I guess. I wonder if gpui supports musl -- I can't remember if I tried that.

In the manual, spaces seem to be rendered as these white boxes FYI

Must be a dark mode thing I missed, shoukd be easy to fix but will probably take a couple days to roll out for all the repositories.

I've set this goal of pure roc for my html docs sites and pdf manuals. I recently got it to a minimal working state end to end, and now I'm going back to try and polish things like this.

I'm looking for features and things that I can build upstream in roc-pdf for example and then trying to find an API that fits nicely etc, and then using that downstream in my shared docs renderer etc to validate it.

The whole process takes days end to end to make a change, I was being sloppy and rushing things to get something working and now we can slow down and take our time.

I really appreciate any feedback or bugs if people are also generating PDFs or using these tools. We can shake out the bugs and then hopefully it will be good enough and basically never need any maintenance from then on.

I probably could have just continued using Asciidoctor and off the shelf tools which would have been easy... but where's the fun in that :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
