Topic: proposals md

I regularly search for the google docs links for proposals, should we keep a proposals.md file in the repo with these links?

view this post on Zulip Sam Mohr (Jan 10 2025 at 16:24):

That sounds good for everything that we want to make public

view this post on Zulip Sam Mohr (Jan 10 2025 at 16:25):

A non-public mechanism is to keep a public to Zulip, but not internet-visible channel here that we post only proposal links to

view this post on Zulip Sam Mohr (Jan 10 2025 at 16:25):

And we delete every other message

view this post on Zulip Richard Feldman (Jan 10 2025 at 17:33):

maybe in some other repo than roc-lang/roc

view this post on Zulip Richard Feldman (Jan 10 2025 at 17:34):

just because it feels like it would kinda pollute code search results

view this post on Zulip Luke Boswell (Jan 10 2025 at 18:53):

I started doing it in roc-awesome but the issue was the proposals are often superseded by lots of discussion and then not updated. I would recommend pointing to a zulip thread with the proposal and discussion.

view this post on Zulip Anton (Jan 10 2025 at 18:54):

Yeah, each entry could be proposal topic, docs link and related zulip discussion(s)

view this post on Zulip Luke Boswell (Jan 10 2025 at 18:54):

I would be happy to host it there again, though I think I'd prefer it in a PROPOSALS.md instead of Readme

view this post on Zulip Anton (Jan 10 2025 at 18:55):

roc-awesome does not seem like the place that people would expect that information to be

view this post on Zulip Luke Boswell (Jan 10 2025 at 19:01):

What I like about roc-awesome is that it's not official so people probably dont expect it to be 100% accurate all the time.

view this post on Zulip Anton (Jan 10 2025 at 19:04):

I think we would benefit from an accurate (complete and up to date) list of proposals

view this post on Zulip Luke Boswell (Jan 10 2025 at 19:06):

I agree, though I ditched it because it was getting hard to keep up to date. Even just the status of proposal was challenging.

view this post on Zulip Anton (Jan 10 2025 at 19:14):

Uhu, understandable, it may be possible if we all help out

view this post on Zulip Anthony Bullard (Jan 10 2025 at 21:08):

I really like the idea of a roc-proposals repo

view this post on Zulip Anthony Bullard (Jan 10 2025 at 21:08):

Especially if it got us to write proposals in .md :-P

view this post on Zulip Luke Boswell (Jan 10 2025 at 21:39):

We have an rfcs repo, maybe in there?

view this post on Zulip Luke Boswell (Jan 10 2025 at 21:44):

https://github.com/roc-lang/rfcs

view this post on Zulip Anthony Bullard (Jan 10 2025 at 21:56):

Why, why did we get away from that?

view this post on Zulip Sam Mohr (Jan 10 2025 at 21:57):

Because it's effort, and harder to back and forth with than Zulip

view this post on Zulip Anthony Bullard (Jan 10 2025 at 21:57):

I mean for the formal proposals

view this post on Zulip Anthony Bullard (Jan 10 2025 at 21:57):

I get throwing ideas out there in Zulip

view this post on Zulip Sam Mohr (Jan 10 2025 at 22:00):

I don't think we ever really started besides Ayaz, but I'd be down to push for proposals to go there?
