I'm not a fan of having a particular name for programmers of a language (cough Elmers cough) but a friend came up with an excellent one that I want to share anyway: Roc-a-fellas!
Sorry if this is too off-topic
It's not bad, but I'm not loving the association with the oil industry :p
True. Or that is assumes Roc programmers are male.
I don't know about a name for the programmers, but if there is ever something like a bootcamp for Roc, I think that Roc-enroll would be a terrific name.
Haha, that's a good one
I've always assumed adding "-ers" was the way to go with this one, but the question is how to spell it!
"rockers?"
"roccers?"
something else?
"roc-ers?"
My gut feeling would be roccers, but auto fix on keyboard will be a pain (same for Roc-enroll btw).
Or on a totally different direction, birdies?
as an American, whenever I see "roccer" I can't help but think :football:
I didn't think about autocorrect - at least for me, "roc-ers" doesn't get autocorrected on Android (and of course neither would "rockers")
Hmm, that one wasn't a problem indeed (on my dutch-french-english keyboard)
rococos, after the late ba-roc style
crocheters
slow cookers (you know, roc-pots)
rookie, as "we're all rookies here"

Can we just call roc programmers roc-pots??? haha. :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing:
birds?
"Here's a new platform for you birds"
... hm na nvm lol, sounds silly
I have a feeling it might end up being roc-ers cause it's the most obvious one
Not to be confused with the rockers of https://codewithrockstar.com/ :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
lmao
Why has Rocstars not been mentioned and rejected yet? :innocent:
lol true
Rocstars is not humble but it is a very cool name
What about Rocs?
Does that mean we call a group of roc programmers a pile of rocs?
Multiple Roc would be a Floc of Rocs, I guess
Roc Floc(k) :bird:
The package registry should be called the Roc Pile.
Eh, unless that brings to mind a pile of birds... which seems wrong...
I'll throw "Roc Heads" into the mix, though I'd prefer many of the above (or none, lol)
It's impressive how much worse "Roceteers" and "Rocettes" are when read than when said
Roc Riders, playing on the idea that we're riding the legendary bird, having some control over it. Like how we control our use of the language, Roc.
Or just "Rider"... I'm an aspiring Rider
Roc Riders also plays off the Rough/Ruff Riders, which has some potential fun
@Jan Van Bruggen I actually really like Roceteers... (maybe just keep the "k" though: Rocketeers)
:joy::joy: I think those are all a little corny
The only one I’ve ever actually liked was for elixir devs, alchemists. But no one really uses it often
Only in like podcast and YouTube channel names mostly
I think even rustecean is too corny
Realistically I imagine people will mostly just say “roc dev”
But don’t let me ruin the brainstorming fun either
I think the important element is that people like to identify by the name as well. It's less important that "Roc" be in the name.
In the Dogecoin community, the members are Shibes. (after the dog pictured on the coin).
Lady Gaga's people are Little Monsters, and they even have their own hand gesture (which I think ours clearly should be :rock_on:)
There's a mission-driven entrepreneur community called Archangel, with the members going by the same name.
A goal would be that people introduce someone by the name... This is John, he's a Shibe.
Might be worth identifying how we want enthusiastic Roc devs to feel, and coin a name that delivers that feeling.
Roccer seems pretty good
@Jason Hobbs you’re quite cultured I see :p
Love the examples and you make a good point
I really like Rocketeers
Other ideas:
I think for things like "rocer" I'd just go for adding the k. "Rocker" is so much more natural feeling, and I think it's ok to bend some rules. Language is a fluid, evolving thing.
